correction to the Science Years

Daniel Fischer, who runs the blog news about the International Year of Astronomy has me in his comment to my posting "math maker 2010 ..." kindly drawn attention to a lack of precision. I was unaware that in 2009 two "Years of Science" was. Once the International Year of Astronomy initiated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO . Secondly, the German Wissenschaftajahr 2009 research expedition Germany . The latter, I hardly noticed, but the year of astronomy has been very präsent. In my area there were local events and the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg was among them. In Daniel Fischer's blog you will find a very impressive review . He laments the lack of central funding in Germany would have similar advertising for the year as required in mathematics. Given a brief comment from me: first, our congratulations to the many volunteers of the year, astronomy, as already noted, it was in very present in Germany. The year of mathematics has determined much of the funding pot helped by that I mean fewer receptions in Bonn and Berlin, but the possibility to print posters and flyers, and hold workshops for teachers as multipliers. The budget also received the science years ago. Also has the Mathematics Year many volunteers to participate enthusiastically and it is visible next to the lighthouse events in the flat country made. (There must also be honest, without the then Ilgen DMV President Günter Ziegler , who had firmly resolved to bring the year of mathematics to succeed and to promote mathematics, would not be possible been.)

But the spillage of funding does not guarantee success. I guess time that the Year of Astronomy 2009 was sustainable 2007 as the year of the humanities. A review of its calendar of events has not impressed me. (Digression: It's always something unfair is a single event to pull out and criticize, but cast a look in " What Bielefeld " can to the subject of an already slightly more than Wehler come and Hentig at. . all its merits)

My final word to the astronomers, "You have done a lot of this opportunity, thank you.
